Garden centre celebrates Twyford harvest with free events

Families from Twyford, Berkshire are being invited to a garden centre in the county next month (October, 2009) to celebrate the Harvest Festival.

Staff at Wyevale Hare Hatch Garden Centre, which is located on Floral Mile in Hare Hatch near Twyford, are celebrating this year’s harvest with a series of free events from Saturday, October 3 until Friday, October 9 during normal garden centre opening hours.

Garden centre Manager, Martin Lines said: “We wanted to celebrate this year’s Harvest Festival and decided to run a variety of free events.

“Shirley Jones, who is Plant Expert at the garden centre, will be offering customers free apple tasting and will be available to talk about this quintessentially English fruit. She’ll be sharing her knowledge with visitors on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 during normal opening hours.

“We are also setting up a skittle alley in the marquee. People young and old will be able to have a go for free and challenge each other to games.”

To tie in with the festivities, the Twyford garden centre is also offering customers a special Harvest Menu in its restaurant. Diners can choose from a selection of homemade dishes, including soups made with vegetables sourced from the area.

Martin added: “We hope that lots of people drop in to the garden centre to help us celebrate harvest and enjoy taking part in the events.”
