Free Twyford Grow Your Own Vegetables Weekend...
People from Berkshire who want to grow their own vegetables this year are invited to a free event at a Twyford garden centre in the county next month (March).
Staff at Hare Hatch Garden Centre on Floral Mile near Twyford, which is part of the Wyevale family, will be hosting the Vegetable Growing Weekend on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 for anyone interested in finding out how to sow vegetable seeds and grow their own food.
Twyford Garden centre Manager, Errol Austin said: “We hope as many people as possible come along and join us for this informative weekend, which will be dedicated to learning how to successfully grow your own vegetables.
“We can help people with choosing seeds, plants and equipment, and we can also offer ideas on how to get the very best from your vegetable patch. For people with smaller gardens we’ll be able to give advice on growing vegetables in growbags, tubs and containers too.
“Also during the weekend, there will be demonstrations and a free growing your own vegetables advice leaflet available for people to take home while stocks last.
“To add to this there will be a competition for schools to win the use of our vegetable planting beds. Anyone interested can pick up an entry form in-store from now (February 13) onwards. The closing date for entries is 4pm on Sunday, March 15.”
Hare Hatch, Twyford Garden Centre predicts grow your own is going to be very popular this year.
Errol added: “From what our customers are telling us they are looking to produce their own vegetables from their allotments, gardens and patios to help with the costs of their food bills during the current economic climate.
“They are also saying to us that they think home-grown produce tastes better and that it is better for the environment, as it’s picked and then eaten at home, so no wasteful packaging or added food miles.”
