Drugs itemiser testing in Twyford
Police have been visiting pubs in Twyford today with a drugs itemiser to carry out testing and offer advice.
PC Mark Powell visited four pubs in the Twyford village with the machine, which detects traces of drugs and gives instant results.
The Waggon and Horses, Golden Cross, Wee Waif and Duke of Wellington all welcomed this free service.
The operation today was conducted in partnership with the licensing department, and representatives from Pubwatch.
Twyford PC Powell said: “It allows licence holders to understand if they have a drugs problem, and if so in which areas of the pub.
“There are traces of drugs in most pubs as the machine picks up even a tiny trace, but this allows publicans to target the problem areas, whether that is a quiet table in the corner or the toilets, for example.
“We were happy with the results today – we were able to provide suitable advice on problem areas, and how to deal with drug abuse in pubs.”
Further testing will take place tomorrow in the Wokingham Local Policing Area.
