Your village, your community, your aspirations for it

Twyford: your village, your community, your aspirations for it - a new community planning enterprise

The Twyford Village Centre Management Initiative (TVCMI) was formed in 2001 with two main aims. First, the community - and particularly local businesses - needed to adapt to the arrival of Waitrose in the village and second, a group such as TVCMI was able to access funding and grants that other organisations like Borough and Parish Councils could not. This has ensured that Wokingham Borough Council could carry out enhancements in the village without delving into its limited and precious core funding.

Six years on, and with its programme of projects successfully completed, TVCMI is now embarking on a forward-thinking programme to consult the community to discover the facilities and resources that local people would like to see improved or created in the future. By forming these community-led plans in partnership with other local groups and organisations, TVCMI will be eligible to apply for economic regeneration funding from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and other organisations.

Representatives from SEEDA, The Community Council for Berkshire and Wokingham Borough Council will offer practical support and advice throughout the process. SEEDA work in other areas has resulted in the creation of a scenic circular walk, a village hall extension and an athletics running track, to name but a few of its projects. Now we need an enthusiastic group of volunteers representing all sections of the community to bring new ideas and suggestions together in a cohesive plan, to ensure that Twyford remains a great place to live with a thriving economy in the years ahead.

We ask all local groups and organisations to send a representative to our General Meeting on Wednesday 13th February at 7.45pm in The Ruscombe Room at Loddon Hall. This will signal the commencement of a process to ensure that we get everybody’s ‘wish-list’ for Twyford. The meeting is public, so any interested individuals are welcome to attend. There will be a short business meeting, in which a new management team will be elected, and then the floor will be open for our first discussion.
In a world of financial restrictions, we now have a golden opportunity to obtain funds for the community, but first we must formulate a plan. Please help us to achieve it.
