Hare Hatch Garden centre to give compost tips

Gardeners from Berkshire are being given the opportunity this month (April 2008) to find out about using peat-free composts in their garden and also about making their own compost.

Wyevale Garden Centre – Hare Hatch, which is located on Floral Mile, Hare Hatch in Twyford, is partnering WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) to offer free advice and tips to visitors to the garden centre on Saturday, April 12.

Garden centre Manager, Errol Austin said: “WRAP is bringing its staffed ‘Compost Kiosk’ to us on Saturday, April 12. It’s a great way to help spread the word about why using peat-free compost containing recycled material is good for gardeners as well as the environment

“Peat-free composts contain recycled garden material such as grass cuttings, prunings and leaves. Home compost is also easy to make and can cut down the waste you have in your average household bin by around 30%. Both peat-free and homemade composts deliver great results for your garden too.”

Visitors to the garden centre will be able to take away free WRAP advice leaflets and WRAP personnel will be available to discuss customer queries about peat-free composts and composting products, which are stocked at the garden centre.

Errol added: “These compost events demonstrate our on-going commitment at Wyevale Garden Centre – Hare Hatch to working towards improving environmental and social issues, and our focus as a business on people, plants and the planet.”
