We all have emotions
There is a volume of evidence suggesting that the suppression of emotions can lead to physical, mental and emotional ill health. “Emotional Therapy” is a form of counselling but with one important difference from most other models of therapy in that the therapist and client work almost entirely with the client’s emotions (past and present) rather than, for example, analysing the causes behind them or introducing new thought patterns.
Often the word “emotional” can strike a chord with clients. Maybe they are bereaved or have relationship problems; perhaps they suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, fear or out of control anger. They might have suddenly realised that they have been feeling persistently unhappy for some time or just feel that something in their life “is not quite right”. There are many more situations where emotional therapy can help; what they all have in common is that there will be an emotional aspect and many people will identify with more than one of these symptoms.
During the therapy sessions the emotional therapist will assist and support the client in acknowledging, accepting and dealing with the suppressed emotional pain in a healthy and integrated way. By the end of their therapy most clients find that they have new found self respect and self confidence enabling them to better cope with the ups and downs of life without becoming bogged down with repeated, unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
