No First Great Western trains from Langley to Twyford

Trying to get home to Twyford, I arrived at Langley train station this afternoon at 1605 and stood and stood in the cold and wet with other customers until 1825 when a train actually stopped going in the Twyford direction and took on passengers.

There were many, many trains that passed through the station in the Slough / Twyford direction between 1605 and 1825 but none of them stopped. There were even empty trains and trains with 'Reading' on the destination but none of them stopped.

The ticket office was locked shut at 1610 as I went to check when the 1615 was signed as being cancelled. There was no staff on the station at all. The information point call machines were used on both platforms 3 and 4 by several customers but were not answered.

Can I ask please:

1 Why no one was sent up from Slough on the London bound services that were running to keep us all informed?

2 Why the help points were not answered?

3 Why there was no ticket or station staff?

4 Why not one train stopped at Langley going in the Twyford direction for nearly two and a half HOURS!

5 Why the loud speakers that were working were not used to keep the customers informed?

6 What compensation I and other travellers can claim and the mechanism for doing so please. Not only were we left in the cold and wet for hours but had our evenings ruined but your "Transformed" travel.

7 Why even still there is no explanation of this appalling ( even by the usual abysmal FGW standards ) service on your website?

Farmers Market Comes To Twyford

Hare Hatch Plant Nursery, Twyford, is pleased to announce that they will be hosting their first Farmers Market on Saturday 23rd September 2006, 9am to 2pm, and thereafter on the 4th Saturday of every month.

Nursery Owner, Rob Scott, is delighted to be hosting this event and says,

“Both Hare Hatch Plant Nursery and the Farmers’ Market traders have reputations based upon the quality and freshness of their produce. The only difference is that ours aren’t edible (except the herbs!). Once a month our Farmers’ Market will offer a fantastic range of local, quality produce which we know our customers will love. It is wonderful to work on a project which allows Hare Hatch to support both local business and British Agriculture & Horticulture and gives our customers an exciting new reason to come and see us.

I envisage that this monthly event will provide the local residents with a welcome change to supermarket shopping, and make its way on to their calendars as a “not-to-be-missed” event.…even if only for the tasty Hog Roast lunch”

Theresa May MP is very keen to support the Farmers Market and will be visiting at approximately 10.15 am.

Family Information Event In Twyford

Wokingham District Council is holding a series of family information days in Twyford offering local people the chance to find out more about children’s centres.

Currently the district council is working to establish seven children’s centres in the Wokingham district by 2008 and each one will be tailored to meet the needs of its neighbourhood. These information events are being held at three venues across Twyford:

* Wednesday September 20 at 9.30am at Twyford Community Centre, Loddon Hall Road, Twyford (this event is being held only for those parents with very young children who may attend toddler groups)
* Thursday September 21 at 3pm at Polehampton Infant School, Hermitage Drive, Twyford (open to all residents)
* Tuesday September 26 at 3pm at Colleton Primary School, Colleton Drive, Twyford (open to all residents).

These events provide a great opportunity for local Twyford people to come along and learn more about what children’s centres are and what facilities they can potentially offer. These events also enable residents to feed back to the council what they feel would be beneficial to offer.

Children’s centres are a crucial part of the multi-agency plan developed by the district council’s children’s services, with its partners from health, the police, the voluntary sector and wider community, to share priorities and work together to improve the lives of all children and young people in the Wokingham district.

They will provide a range of services depending on local need and parental choice. The aim is for a network of centres across the district, which will offer information, advice and support to parents and carers, as well as early years provision, health services, family and parental support, and employment advice for families. The centres will become part of the community and they will be developed and delivered with the involvement of parents and carers and the local community.

Wendy Woodcock, corporate head of children’s services, said: “Wokingham District Council is committed to ensuring that every child under five has the best start in life and by establishing children’s centres, we will go a long way to ensuring this happens. The services offered at the children’s centres will not be the same in each of the seven neighbourhoods, because needs and communities vary greatly.

“The events in Twyford promise to be informative. We are keen that these children’s centres are designed in consultation with the whole community and with the needs of local children and their families in mind.”
