Performance of Stainer's Crucifixion by the Twyford Singers
7 pm on Palm Sunday, 9th April 2006,
St Mary’s Parish Church,
Twyford,
Berkshire
As always at this time of year, the Twyford Singers will present a performance that depicts the Easter story, at St Mary’s Church, Twyford. On Palm Sunday evening they will sing the Crucifixion, composed by John Stainer, which is a dramatic portrayal of some of the incidents in the last days of Jesus’ life on earth. The music was written in 1887 and has been performed widely since then.
Chairman Judy Hallinan, said: “Many people in the audience will be familiar with the melodious notes of bass soloist Alan Bullimore who has been associated with the choir for several years and who always brings dignity to the roles he sings. This year we have a new soloist for the tenor part, which will be taken by Chris Jones, who comes highly recommended and is an undergraduate at the London College of Music in Ealing. We are very much looking forward to working with them both.”
Musical Director, Simon Rigby said: “The choir is always pleased to be invited to start Easter week in the parish with this piece, which they really enjoy singing. There are also opportunities for the congregation to take part in the hymns.”
A donation from the proceeds will be made to St Mary’s Church and Christian Aid.
The Crucifixion, St Mary’s Church, Church Road, Twyford at 7pm on Sunday 9th April 2006.
