Jaltek acquires Twyford design firm for front-end
Luton-based contract electronics manufacturer (CEM) Jaltek Systems has acquired contract electronic design firm Abra Cad of Twyford, Berkshire.
“We want to be able to add front-end capability of significant quality to the engineering chain, to be seen as more than just a board-stuffer,” Jaltek’s sales director, Steve Pittom, told Electronics Weekly.
Jaltek and Abra Cad already had an alliance, using each other for manufacturing and design services respectively. “They have proved to be an exceptional strategic partner,” said Pittom.
Following the acquisition, parent firm Jaltek has already put cash into its new division. “We are able to provide investment for new tools to allow Abra Cad to expand its signal integrity offering,” said Pittom.
Abra Cad will remain in Twyford for the next six months, then move a short distance. “It will locate to larger premises in the Reading area where we are planning to create more jobs and add prototype manufacturing capability,” said Pittom.
Jaltek specialises in production for niche markets and claims to do well out of it. “Eight years of solid growth is quite an achievement at the best of times,” said the firm. We have “bucked the trend by growing ten-fold through the worst recession the electronics industry has ever faced”.
